Why The Leadership Round Table?

The Leadership Part:

I think about leadership a lot. It's my job. I work as a Senior Leadership Consultant with Talent Plus, Inc. Writing teaches me what I really think so it's natural for me to write about leadership. The ideas and opinions I express here are completely my own, and sometimes Talent Plus chooses to incorporate those ideas into the Talent Plus Viewpoint Blog.  I say, "That's totally consistent with a round table."

The Round Table Part:

I like round tables. Everyone can see everyone else. You can almost always make room for one more chair. And nobody ever has to sit on a corner. That's what I hope it will be like here.

Most of the time I'll do the writing to start the conversation. I hope lots of people will come sit at the table because conversation with smart people refines what I think. Also, I have a lot of smart, talented colleagues who have great ideas, and I hope they will occasionally share some of those ideas here, whether it's in posts they write or in interviews they do with me.

My vision for this place is that it will be a community where people ask questions and share ideas. I'll make the thing run, but I won't be the only person with a voice here. I'm not interested in sitting at the table by myself. I'm glad you're here!

A Little About Me:
  • My name is Kim Turnage. I like to be called Kim.
  • To my mother's dismay I was a child who continually asked, "Why?" and never agreed to do anything without a sufficiently good answer to that question.
  • To my mother's great joy, I am reaping what I sowed in three strong-willed children.
  • My high school sweetheart and husband of 25 years tolerates all four of us with great humor.
  • I have a few letters after my name (Ph.D.) that basically mean people who knew more than I did agreed I had learned how to learn -- that was about 20 years ago.
  • I'm still learning.
  • My career path looks a lot more like a spiral staircase than a 20-foot extension ladder. What ties it all together? A passion for unlocking people's potential and making organizations work better. You can learn more about how I've done that here.
  • My particular passion is leadership, and that gives me plenty of room to wander and wonder.
  • I hope you'll do some wandering and wondering with me here.
